Transit Priorities Banner featuring a bus

Project Update - Summer 2026

Construction on 101 Street between Jasper Avenue and 102A Avenue is scheduled to begin the week of August 24 and is expected to take one week. Most work will occur overnight (9pm to 6am weekdays and until 9am on weekends). Construction includes lane reconfiguration, pavement overlay, new road markings and signage and signal adjustments.

What’s Changing?

This work will add transit priority measures to improve safety, reduce transit delays and congestion, and support increased transit demand in the area.

  • The southbound curb lane will become a bus-only lane from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Right turns will still be permitted.
  • To create widened lanes that meet modern standards, one northbound traffic lane will be permanently removed.
  • Traffic signals will be updated to improve vehicle turning movements and pedestrian crossings.
  • On-street parking and loading will not be permitted between 6am and 6pm on either side of the street.

During construction, one lane will remain open in each direction and lane closures will be removed during off-peak periods, whenever possible. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, though area residents can expect some noise. ETS Routes are not affected.

Construction Bulletin - August 2026

The design for this section originally included a bus lane in both directions. The design was updated to include a bus lane in the southbound lane ONLY. A northbound bus lane may be added in the future, but there is no confirmed timeline.

About the Project

Edmonton is growing, and our transit use is too. Between 2023 and 2024, Edmonton transit ridership increased by 15% above pre-COVID levels. As we grow to a city of 2 million people, the ridership is expected to grow too. The City of Edmonton is implementing Transit Priority Measures to improve the efficiency and reliability of public transit.

Did you know?

Introducing transit priority measures is a cost-effective way to improve our ability to quickly and efficiently get more Edmontonians to where they want to go. The transit priority measures coming in 2025 and 2026 will help improve transit service in the short term by enhancing what we already have, while the City plans for bigger future projects like Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which is part of the Mass Transit Planning study.
