The Wellington Bridge, located on 102 Avenue between Churchill Crescent and Wellington Crescent, will be replaced.

Project Update - December 2023

The preliminary design of the Wellington Bridge Replacement recommended a concrete arch bridge for this location. Detailed design began in October 2021 and the project was put on pause to coordinate timing with the construction of the Valley Line West LRT. Work on detailed design will begin again in 2024.

Construction of the Wellington Bridge is anticipated to start in 2025 and will take approximately 2 years to complete.

Wellington Bridge Preliminary Design Concrete Arch Bridge – to be refined during detailed design

The proposed bridge will be wider than the current bridge to accommodate a 4.2 metre wide shared-use path (SUP) on the north side, a  2.8 metre wide sidewalk on the south side, wider driving lanes and shoulders to meet City of Edmonton Construction and Design Standards.

The SUP on the bridge will line up with the SUP on 102 Avenue. This will reduce the number of cyclists on the road and user conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians.
