Information for Edmontonians about accessing services and conducting business with the City during a Canada Post strike.
For the duration of the Canada Post strike, some City services could be affected. Many services are available online, and alternatives are detailed below.
The City is committed to staying connected to Edmontonians, as well as connecting Edmontonians to their community and what matters most to them. It continues to monitor the situation and take steps to maintain business continuity.
Edmonton Service Centre
The Edmonton Service Centre, located on the second floor of Edmonton Tower (10111 104 Avenue) is open weekdays from 8am to 4:30pm. Book an in-person appointment online to pay for select City services and ETS fares.
During the strike, there may be longer than usual wait times due to increased in-person needs. Edmontonians are encouraged to use the drop box - located at the Mail / Lost and Found counter - to drop off forms and payment by cheque.
Service Impacts
Edmontonians who pay the City for facility rentals, uninsured damages to City property, rent and leases, and more can continue paying online, through their bank, by phone or in person at the Edmonton Service Centre, as applicable. Please avoid paying by mail, as cheques may not be received in time. See Corporate Billing and Accounts Receivable Invoices.
Riders are encouraged to visit participating sales outlets or Arc vending machines to purchase their fare product; riders can load their Arc card online at myarc.ca. They can also visit the Edmonton Service Centre.
Cash fare is also accepted on transit buses and select Arc vending machines.
Bylaw Tickets (example - parking): pay online or in person at the Edmonton Service Centre.
Provincial violation tickets: pay online at Alberta Fine Payments.
Automated Enforcement
The City of Edmonton will not issue automated enforcement tickets during a Canada Post strike. All tickets for infractions during the strike will be issued once mail service resumes. Payment deadlines and court dates will be adjusted based on the date the ticket is issued and not the date the infraction occurred.

Development permit notifications for permitted developments and discretionary developments (those requiring notification of property owners in the neighbourhood) will not be sent in the mail.
The list of applications requiring notification will be posted to Public Notices on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Edmontonians applying for the Leisure Access Program, which provides access to recreation facilities and attractions at a lower cost, are encouraged to drop off their application at any City-run recreation centre or attraction.
Neighbourhood Renewal updates will continue to be shared on individual neighbourhood project web pages. Alternate notification methods, such as neighbourhood signage, will also be used as appropriate.
You can submit a claim against the City through an online form, through 311 or at the Edmonton Service Centre. Claim payments may be delayed due to the postal strike.

Approved business licences and renewal letters will not be sent by mail. You can request to have copies of approved business licences emailed or made available for pick up at the Edmonton Service Centre.
Pet licence renewal notices will not be sent by mail. Pet owners are still required to keep their pet licences up to date. You can renew or purchase a pet licence online or in person at the Animal Care and Control Centre.
Edmontonians applying for the Assisted Snow Removal Program are asked to drop off the required health care provider forms in person at the Edmonton Service Centre. Due to privacy regulations, these forms cannot be accepted via email.
Lost or damaged Residential Parking Program permits can be requested online but will not be mailed out. Applicants can request that permits be available for pick-up at the Edmonton Service Centre; you will be notified when permits are ready.
For the duration of the Canada Post strike, suppliers receiving payment by cheque may be impacted. Consider signing up for direct deposit (EFT) to avoid payment delays.
