The Community Parks Framework is a new approach to increase equitable access to community park amenities to enable a better life for all Edmontonians.

Project Update

The Community Parks Framework is the City’s new approach to the development and renewal of community park amenities.

With the implementation of the framework, the Neighbourhood Park Development Program (NPDP) will no longer be accepting new projects. Active NPDP projects are continuing. During the 2023-2026 budget process, funding was allocated for renewal of community park amenities. There is no funding allocated in the 2023-2026 capital budget for the development of new community park amenities. The City is currently advancing the highest priority renewal projects with the budget allocated in the 2023-2026 capital budget.

An update on the framework will be advanced to Council in the spring of 2023.

Project Overview

The Community Parks Framework is a new approach to support the development and renewal of community park amenities. With the implementation of the framework, the Neighbourhood Park Development Program will be phased out. NPDP has been the main avenue for development of community park amenities since 1983.

The Community Parks Framework will ensure equitable access to community park amenities for all Edmontonians. The framework aims to ensure the City's investment in development and renewal of amenities is providing the optimum long-term value through planning, operations and life cycle management.

The  framework aligns with the City policies such as The City Plan, ConnectEdmonton, Breathe, GBA+ and the Infrastructure Asset Management Policy to guide strategic development and renewal in a consistent, equitable and responsible manner.
