This project is rehabilitating City Arts Centre so users can continue learning, exploring and discovering their creativity for years to come.
Temporary Facility Closure
From June to September 2026, City Arts Centre, including its washrooms, will temporarily close to accommodate necessary rehabilitation work, including building structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades.
During this closure, programming will be relocated to other City facilities. Programming is anticipated to resume at the facility in fall 2026. While the washrooms are closed, portable toilets will be made available to beach volleyball and tennis court users.
Parking in the City Arts Centre parking lot is anticipated to be limited while the rehabilitation occurs.
We know temporary closures can be inconvenient, and we are working diligently to complete the rehabilitation as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this necessary work.

About the Project
City Arts Centre opened in 1979 and is a City of Edmonton facility that offers arts programming to Edmontonians. Many of its systems have reached the end of their lifecycle and require rehabilitation or replacement.
The City Arts Centre Rehabilitation Project will rehabilitate parts of the building and site. The project involves hazardous materials abatement, life safety system upgrades and sidewalk repairs, as well as replacement of the building envelope, building systems and some interior finishes. This project will repair the building structure and replace its roof and part of the facility flooring and plumbing, in addition to its heating, electrical and ventilation systems.
These improvements will bring the building up to current building codes while improving accessibility, energy efficiency, safety and user experience throughout the building and site.
The rehabilitation project began in spring 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in fall 2026. The project will take place in phases to reduce the impact for facility users.
The Garneau Park playground will remain open and access to City Arts Centre parking lot and exterior washrooms will be maintained during the majority of the rehabilitation project.
Following the rehabilitation, City Arts Centre will continue serving Edmontonians for years to come. Visit the City Arts Centre web page for more information about the diverse programs offered at the centre.
