Ever wondered where your garbage, recycling and food scraps go? Join us for a unique opportunity to tour the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. These 2-hour tours provide an in-depth look at what happens to our waste and how we can work together to send less to the landfill.
- Public tours are available most Fridays, with sign-ups open to all residents
- School tours and group tours are available by request
Tours are free of charge. Groups larger than 15 people must provide a bus for the tour.
Audience: Grades 4-12
Student to adult supervisor ratio: 1 adult for every 9 students

Starting June 1, the City will be hosting 14 tours of the EWMC as part of Environment Week. These tours will give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how garbage, recycling and food scraps are collected and processed, and discuss the ways residents and the City work together to protect the environment.
For residents who are not able to drive to the EWMC, select tours include an option to be picked up and dropped off by City transportation at the Clareview Transit Station.
Tours are free and open to residents over the age of nine. Spots are limited

This general presentation on Edmonton’s Waste System can be customized to suit the needs of your learners.
Do your students have what it takes to become a Waste Warrior? Filled with activities, videos, quizzes and Waste Warrior Mission challenges, this eLearning program takes students on a journey through Edmonton’s waste system. They will learn all about the waste they produce, what happens to it, and how positive waste choices and actions protect our planet.
This program can be done at your own pace and is free of charge. It has 5 units that each take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.
