The City is responsible for the prosecution of a wide range of offences committed under City Bylaws and certain Provincial Statutes.

Some examples include:

  • Parking
  • Zoning
  • Noise
  • Business Licensing
  • Animal Control

If you are charged with a Bylaw offence you may request a review of your file if you feel you have a valid defence to the charge or if you feel there are significant mitigating circumstances to be considered.

If you would like to have the municipal prosecutor review your file please follow these steps:

Step One - Plea

Before any review you must first enter a not guilty plea to the charge and obtain a trial date through the Traffic Division of the Provincial Court. Instructions on setting a trial date can be found on your violation ticket.

Step Two - Request Review

Once a trial date has been set you must submit your request for a review, in writing, to the office of the municipal prosecutor. This request may be submitted by:

  • Delivery or ordinary mail to:

    Municipal Prosecutor
    900 Chancery Hall
    3, Sir Winston Churchill Square
    Edmonton AB
    T5J 3C1
  • Fax to: 780-496-7267

Step Three - Additional Details

Please include the following with your written request for a review:

  • Name of the person charged (on ticket)
  • Trial date, courtroom and time
  • Your address and a contact phone number
  • The reason(s) you would like the ticket reviewed
  • Any supporting documentation or material (i.e. photos) you would like considered

You should submit your request for a review as far in advance of your trial date as possible. Generally, requests for reviews are dealt with as they are received and a response may be expected from the municipal prosecutor approximately 2 to 4 weeks prior to the trial date.
