Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal is coming to Meyokumin and planning is underway!

Project Update - September 2022

Exploring Options and Tradeoffs

You are invited to the Exploring Options and Tradeoffs stage of engagement. During this stage, the project team will return to the community to confirm the Vision and Guiding Principles and explore options and tradeoffs to understand the preferences of the community. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on design options and to share insights to help us refine the options.

An online survey will be available until October 11, 2022.

Meyokumin will see new trees planted in the neighbourhood as part of the City’s Urban Canopy initiative. For more information visit the Urban Tree Canopy Expansion project page.

About the Project

Neighbourhood Renewal rehabilitates residential roads, replaces street lights, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and adds missing sidewalk links, where possible. Other opportunities to improve how people walk, bike, roll, drive and gather in the neighbourhood, and how they enjoy City-owned parks and open spaces are also explored.

Alley Renewal will be included as part of the neighbourhood reconstruction. Alley Renewal involves alley reconstruction and repaving, improvements to surface drainage where possible, and upgrading of existing alley lighting to LED fixtures. Utility assessments and repairs, along with removals and pruning of trees and shrubs, are also completed.

A series of public events will be scheduled by the project team which will give residents the opportunity to build a project vision and guiding principles together and provide regular feedback on the different stages of the project including design.

Cost sharing opportunities will be made available through the local improvement process for sidewalk reconstruction and decorative street light upgrades in the neighbourhood. Arterial roads are not included in the scope of work.
