La Perle and Belmead have been chosen for Neighbourhood Renewal. Construction is set to begin spring 2026 in the La Perle neighbourhood.

Project Update - April 2026

It’s the first year of La Perle and Belmead Neighbourhood Renewal construction and we are scheduled to start in May 2026! Work will consist of reconstruction and paving of the roads, removal and replacement of public sidewalk, curb, gutter and street lighting.

This year, the majority of construction will take place in the southeast portion of La Perle, south of 98 Avenue and 97A Avenue. Please view this scope map to see the 2026 construction area. Work will also occur within the parks and open spaces. The final design is available in the What We Decided report.

The City of Edmonton and EPCOR are working together to construct Low Impact Development (LID), which will help with stormwater retention and help mitigate flooding.

Please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information along with details on landscaping and access. All residents and business owners are asked to access their homes and businesses through the back entrances and alleys, where possible, during construction. If no alley access is available and/or you have special access requirements (such as DATS or a temporary access ramp to the front of your home), please contact the Construction Project Manager, Emily Cote, 780-496-4055, to coordinate.

Construction in La Perle is to begin in spring 2026 and is expected to take 3 years (planned completion fall 2028). Neighbourhood renewal in La Perle is progressing on time and on budget. Construction in Belmead is to be scheduled during the 2027-2030 budget cycle.

About The Project

Neighbourhood reconstruction rehabilitates residential roads, replaces street lights, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, and adds missing sidewalk links, where possible. Other opportunities to improve how people walk, bike, drive and gather in the neighbourhood, and how they enjoy City-owned parks and open spaces are also explored.

At the beginning of the project, the Project Team will work with the community to create a project Vision and Guiding Principles. People who live, work and play in La Perle and Belmead will be asked for regular feedback on the different stages of the project.

Cost-sharing opportunities will be made available through the Local Improvement process for sidewalk reconstruction and decorative street light upgrades in the neighbourhood. Arterial roads and alleys are not included in the scope of work.

Working together to make the most of your neighbourhood

This is your city and your neighbourhood. We want to understand how you experience your neighbourhood and ask for your input on what we might do to make it better. We will engage and work with you on the renewal of roads, sidewalks, street lights and park spaces and promote other community opportunities to enhance how people live and interact in your neighbourhood. We commit to being open and transparent about how your input is used. Let’s make the most out of your neighbourhood.
