Allendale Alley Renewal

Allendale has been chosen for Alley Renewal. Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2024, with anticipated completion in fall 2025.

Project Update - April 2024

It’s the first year of Allendale Alley Renewal and we are scheduled to start in May 2024. Work will consist of removing the existing road structure, placing a new gravel base, conducting minor concrete replacement and installing new asphalt pavement.

This year, Alley Renewal construction will take place in various sections of Allendale due to required utility coordination.

Please watch your mailbox for construction bulletins that will provide more information regarding construction timelines for your alley along with contractor contact information. For special concerns or access requirements, such as Dedicated Access Transit Service (DATS), please contact the Construction Project Manager, David Kavanagh, david.kavanagh@edmonton.ca, 780-496-4055.

Alley construction in Allendale is starting in spring 2024 and is expected to take two years to complete (the planned completion is fall 2025). Alley Renewal in Allendale is progressing on time and on budget.

Garbage and Recycle Collection

While your alley is closed for construction, waste cart collection will occur from your front street or avenue. Residents are asked to temporarily relocate carts and recycle bags to the front of your property during alley closures for pick-up on collection days. Carts and bags should be placed in a visible location along the curb or back of the sidewalk, at which point collection workers will manoeuver carts so they can be emptied.

We recommend you identify your home address in the space provided on the carts to ensure your assigned carts are returned to your home after collection.

About the Project

Alley Renewal involves alley reconstruction and repaving, fixing surface drainage where possible and upgrading of existing alley lighting to LED fixtures. Utility assessments and repairs, along with removals and pruning of trees and shrubs, are also completed.

Alley Renewal includes the opportunity for an alley lighting property owner initiated Local Improvement.

Allendale has been chosen for Alley Renewal, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2024.

The Project Team is continuing work on the design of how best to renew Allendale’s alleys. Construction is planned for 2024-2025 to allow for utility coordination. Alley Renewal project updates, including staging, will be available as we get closer to construction in the spring of 2024.

November 2022

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback through our online survey for Allendale Alley Renewal. The survey closed on October 30, 2022 and we appreciate everyone who took the time to provide their feedback.

The project team will review all of the feedback provided, along with technical information and City policies and programs, for consideration in the development of the final designs. We will provide additional project updates, including more information about construction timelines, in 2023.
