August 2026 - Project Update
The project team is working with targeted interested parties to refine the proposed design for 103 Street Community Park.
About the Project
Guided by the Downtown Capital City Plan and Downtown Public Places Plan, the City acquired the parking lot at 103 Street and 100 Avenue to develop a community gathering space for the McKay Avenue community.
This park will provide an area for people to gather. Places where people can engage in passive recreation are important for the economic, physical and mental health of residents, workers, students and visitors.
By purchasing the land, the City of Edmonton can both create new green space and eliminate an unauthorized surface parking lot. This site has features that make it a good choice for a community gathering space:
- It is located next to two protected bike lanes
- It is south-facing that maximizes natural sunlight year round (allowing for four-season use)
- It’s close to a high density residential population
- The west side abuts the Freemasons Hall, a building with heritage value
This project is funded through delivery. Construction is expected to start in spring 2027.
Design Process
Building on the design directions set in the Downtown Public Places Plan, engagement will focus on targeted interested parties. The City will also share information at upcoming downtown events, and the final design will be published on this web page prior to construction.
