Jasper Ave New Vision

This project will re-establish Jasper Avenue, from 92 Street to 109 Street, as an Edmonton main street. Completion is anticipated in 2022.

2021 Construction Impacts

The project is moving into the revitalization of westbound Jasper Avenue from 97 Street to 100 Street, 97 Street from Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue, Thornton Court south of Jasper Avenue and a section 99 Street from Jasper Avenue north towards Shoctor Alley. Work to complete Phase 2 of construction started on March 1, 2021 and is anticipated to be complete by winter 2021.

This work will require various closures and detours throughout the project area. Provisions will be in place to maintain access to the Canada Place Parkade, as well 101A Avenue. Closures will be coordinated with all affected property owners in advance and building access will be maintained at all times.

  • The north side of Jasper Avenue will be closed, with a single lane of traffic, east and westbound on the south side of Jasper Avenue for the duration of the project.

  • Portions of 99 Street and 100 Street will be closed, with access to one north and southbound lane maintained at all times.

  • South of Jasper Avenue, Thornton Court will see phased closures to allow for work in this area.

  • Full closure of 97 Street, including both east and westbound travel lanes and on-street parking between Jasper Avenue and 102 Avenue will be required for the duration of the project.

  • 97 Street from Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue and the east sidewalk are closed.
  • Eastbound 101A Avenue from 97 Street to the alley east of 97 Street is also closed.
  • Jasper Avenue from 97 Street to 100 Street is reduced to 1 lane in each direction and the north sidewalk is closed.
  • 100 Street from MacDonald Drive to 101A Avenue is reduced to 1 lane in each direction.

Project Overview

The goal of Imagine Jasper Avenue and Jasper Avenue New Vision is to restore and elevate the avenue, giving it a consistent look and feel, highlighting the downtown core and providing a safe and enhanced experience for those who walk, bike, drive or use transit. Ultimately, the changes will support area businesses and attract visitors.

Highlights of both sections of Jasper Avenue include wider sidewalks, enhanced street furniture and plantings, new street and pedestrian lighting and full roadway reconstruction.

During construction (spring to fall 2020, 2021 and 2022), traffic will be limited to 1 lane in each direction. Traffic will be restored to existing capacity on Jasper Avenue from 97 Street to 100 Street during the winter. Jasper Avenue from 109 Street to 114 Street will be restored to 5 lanes of traffic during the winter.
