The City of Edmonton is committed to improving accessibility. The missing sidewalk connections program focuses on filling in missing links in the pedestrian network in alignment with the sidewalk strategy and missing sidewalk request list.

Project Update - 2026

Work on the 2026 Missing Links areas will begin in mid-to-late July and continue into the fall. The following areas are included:

153 Avenue from 121 Street to 126 Street
- Scheduled to start at the end of July and be completed by the end of September
- The eastbound south curb lane of 153 Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to safely complete this work.

- Scheduled to begin at the end of July and be complete by the end of September
- The south curb lane of Argyll Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to safely complete this work.

Parsons Road from 25 Avenue to 34 Avenue
- Scheduled to begin in mid-August and be complete by the end of October
- The southbound curb lane of Parson’s Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to complete this work safely.

- Scheduled to begin late July and finish by the end of August
- The eastbound curb lane of 87 Avenue will be closed to complete this work safely

Missing Sidewalks

As part of the fall 2021 Supplemental Capital Budget Adjustment (SCBA), $4 million was approved for the Missing Sidewalks Program. With this funding, planning and design was completed for a number of missing sidewalk links, totalling over 6 kilometres, and construction was advanced for locations totalling over 2 kilometres.

The remaining 4 kilometres of locations designed but not constructed were funded by an additional $13.6 million approved as part of the 2023-2026 Capital Budget.

The 2023-2026 funding allowed the City to continue to plan, design and construct more connections throughout the city, totalling approximately 10 kilometres of new connections.

2026 construction is expected to start during the month of July, while planning and design continues for the additional locations currently under consideration for future construction when new funding becomes available.
