The Neighbourhood Revitalization Macro-grant provides funding opportunities for residents, local organizations and businesses for project funding for community-led projects and initiatives.

Revitalization Macro-grants, ranging between $2501 - $20,000, are available to support new opportunities and activities in Revitalization neighbourhood/areas that align with the goals of Neighbourhood Revitalization Strategies for each eligible Revitalization neighbourhood and area.

Intake for 2026 Revitalization Macro-grants will be open from February 1-October 30, 2026.

To be eligible, projects, initiatives or events must be located within and directly benefit at least one of the neighbourhoods currently engaged in a City of Edmonton Neighbourhood Revitalization Strategy:

Eligibility

  • Organizations and Associations
  • Businesses
  • Fiscal agents on behalf of Ad hoc community groups and individuals:
    Fiscal agents may add a community member as a collaborator on the application in the grant portal. The fiscal agent is responsible for management and reporting of grant monies on behalf of the ad hoc community group or individual applicant.

Eligible Projects and Expenses

Eligible Projects and Expenses include:

  • Projects, initiatives and events that are open to the public and are free or low cost (cost recovery only)
  • Expenses directly tied to planning, implementation or evaluation of outcomes
  • Honorariums for persons or groups where fees are not legally or traditionally required (for example, indigenous elders, presenters, non-vendor licensed service providers)
    • Honorariums are limited to $200 per person
  • Gifts for indigenous protocol, knowledge keepers and Elders
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages for volunteers or event attendees to a maximum of 10% of budgeted expenses
    • Example: If you are applying for the maximum $20,000 in grant funding, up to $2,000 may be allocated to food and beverage in the budget
  • Consumable expenses such as craft, program and event supplies
  • Fees for performers or other service providers
  • Non-consumable expenses that are maintained by the group but available for community use at free or low-cost-recovery fees
  • Event venue rental is an eligible expense if it is not the organization’s regular programming or administrative space
  • Beautification expenses for non-permanent planters and plants up to a maximum of $7,500 will be eligible in 2026 to support the Revitalization program outcome of sense of pride in neighbourhood public spaces 

Types of eligible projects or events may include but are not limited to:

  • Local youth capacity building
  • Neighbourhood art, social, cultural or recreational activities

Ineligible Projects and Expenses

  • Projects, initiatives and events that are private or charge entrance fees to generate revenue, unless it is a cost recovery model
  • Projects that conflict with the City Plan Intentions, ConnectEdmonton Strategy or the following Neighbourhood Services Funding Program outcomes:
    • Empowerment and engagement of citizens to become community leaders, and the strengthening of existing community leadership
    • Enhancement of community safety
    • Increasing of community connections and inclusion opportunities
    • Celebration of Indigenous culture
    • Deepening of multicultural connections
    • Creation and promotion of beautiful and clean spaces
    • Advancement of arts in the community
    • Animation of City of Edmonton parkland
    • Support of local economic investment (applicable to Revitalization Neighbourhoods)
  • Capital and infrastructure project expenditures to improve City-owned assets or facilities on City land, privately-owned assets on City land or privately-owned assets or facilities on private property (for example: design, contractor costs, construction materials and supplies, furniture, computer equipment)
  • Ongoing operating expenses (for example: staff salaries, insurance, legal and accounting fees, facility operating expenses, facility maintenance)
  • Time and labour for the preparation of funding applications
  • Purchase of non-consumables i.e. equipment, tools for commercial use, renting out or held as private property
  • Projects that are completed or retroactive expenses incurred prior to the application submission date (any expenses incurred prior to receiving notice of grant approval cannot be guaranteed)
  • Gift cards, gratuities, promotional items and prizes
  • Alcohol, cannabis or associated items
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages for volunteers or event attendees exceeding 10% of budgeted expenses
  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages for City staff or paid employees of the lead organization that is supporting the initiative
  • Non-consumable expenses that are for commercial use, rented out or private property
  • Projects and expenses for which the applicant has received funding from other City grants

Note: Multi-year projects or recurring annual events will only be considered on a sliding scale of 100%-75%-50%-25% if they can demonstrate growth* and meet the criteria outlined in the Funding Conditions and Reporting Requirements. *This could include but is not limited to: engaging with new partners, increasing community participation, enhancements to project/initiative elements, introducing new elements in response to partner/participant feedback.

Funding Conditions

  • Successful applications will have up to 1 year from the application submission date to complete the project or initiative and spend the funds unless otherwise granted in the funding approval letter.
  • The funding amount will not exceed $20,000 and is dependent on project scope and criteria. Applicants can apply for only 1 City of Edmonton grant for a particular element of their project or initiative.
  • Applicants can only receive one City of Edmonton grant for a particular project or initiative.
  • Applicants may not resubmit or appeal an application for the same project until they have received written notification of approval or denial of their current funding application.
  • Recipients of funds are to acknowledge the City of Edmonton wherever possible and appropriate.  The City of Edmonton visual identity standards are available upon request and recognition of funding can be achieved in a variety of ways:
    • News release or submitted article to local or regional media
    • Social media channels such as X, Facebook and blog postings
    • Organization’s website or newsletter
    • Signage, either temporary or permanent

Application Requirements

Prior to submitting a Revitalization Macro-grant application, it is strongly recommended that the applicant:

  • Reach out to the Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator (NRC) to ensure alignment and verify eligibility
  • Review all Macro-grant application requirements
  • Ensure that your organization is registered for an account through the Community Investment Grant Portal.  As of January 2026 all Neighbourhood Services funding applications (including budget information and final reporting) will only be accepted through the portal

Assessment Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • The project aligns to the organization’s mandate
  • The leading organization demonstrates the capacity to complete the project
  • The project or initiative aligns with the Neighbourhood Revitalization Program outcomes
  • The project or initiative advances the goals of the Neighbourhood Revitalization Strategies for the neighbourhood(s) indicated in the grant application
  • Project expenses and activities are feasible for the timelines outlined in the application
  • The organization or event planner demonstrates they will engage with individuals and groups beyond direct membership

Meeting assessment requirements does not guarantee funding.  Applicants may receive full, partial or no funding for their projects.

All applicants will be contacted with a grant decision.

Note: Individual applicants or groups who are not a registered organization must partner with a fiscal agent and the application must be submitted by the fiscal agent.

Submit Your Final Report

All Revitalization Project Macro-grant recipients must submit a Final Report within 60 days of the completion of the Project. Your Final Report must include:

  • Name of Project
  • Description of how the funds were used
  • Information on how your event met the goals for the Revitalization neighbourhood/area
  • Financial reporting - you may be required to submit receipts for auditing purposes, so applicants are strongly encouraged to keep complete financial records and proof of payment

Consider before applying how you will evaluate and report to demonstrate your project or event successfully met the goals for the Revitalization neighbourhood(s) stated in your application. This may include but not limited to:

  • How you will share stories, *photos, and posts through websites, newsletters and social media.
  • Tracking actual or estimated attendees/participants
  • Examples of advertising or marketing materials

*Photos (optional) - ensure you have permission to share identifiable photos prior to submission. The Model Release Form must be used for City informational and promotional purposes. Note: Fund recipient eligibility for future funding through the City of Edmonton is dependent on a complete Final Report verified as received by the Grants Office.
