Program Overview

Edmonton City Council approved funding of $2,668,000 for early intervention and intervention programming to support the Community Safety and Well Being Strategy (CSWB).

Grant Information Sessions

The City of Edmonton is hosting 2 online Grant Information Sessions to give interested applicants a better understanding of program eligibility requirements, provide tips for completing the application and details on timelines for review and decisions. Pre-registration is required.

Grant Priorities

Early intervention and intervention can be defined in different ways, depending on the nature of the program area. The Grant will help support organizations in their efforts to achieve the following:

Early intervention projects/programs
Focus on addressing issues at an early stage before more intensive support is required. This type of programming can be targeted to children, youth, adults or families.

Intervention projects/programs
Address immediate needs by providing support or treatment to those already affected by a problem or issue, to stop the issue from worsening.

Grant Application Assessment

Applications are assessed based on the following:

Program meets the definition of Early Intervention or Intervention and is addressing 1 or more of the 4 Pillars, Outcomes and Principles listed in the CSWB Strategy
Demonstrate Project Need and Benefit to the Community, including how this program/project will address existing gaps in the sector
Project Viability and Financial Feasibility - a clear plan with timelines, activities, resourcing and readiness to implement exists. A complete and balanced budget exists.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Community Safety and Well Being Strategy (CSWB) Grant, the applicant is one of the following:

Non-profit organization registered for at least one year and in good standing with the incorporating body such as an Alberta Society, Non-profit Private Company, Non-Profit Public Company, or Extra-Provincial Non-profit Company.
Local grassroots group or interested individual that has a fiscal agent that meets 1 of the eligible categories. If the applicant is awarded funding through this grant program, the fiscal agent must agree to act on the applicant’s behalf to sign a funding agreement with the City and to receive, administer and report on the grant.
Organizations/fiscal agents must be based in Edmonton and serve Edmontonians.
Applicants currently receiving other City grants or funding must be in good standing with the City in terms of reporting requirements.
A project/program already receiving City funding is not eligible for this grant.

Eligible Expenses

Examples of eligible expenses may include, but are not limited to:

Staffing costs specific to the initiative
Honourariums
Program/project material and supplies
Printing and communications
Training expenses
Travel expenses, within Edmonton
Evaluation expenses
Other administrative costs associated with the project/program (should not exceed 15% of the total project cost)
Short-term rental of space for projects/programs

Ineligible Expenses

Program funding cannot be used for expenses related to:

Time and labour provided towards preparation of funding applications, fundraising including costs for fundraising campaigns and websites for fundraising purposes
Endowments, charitable donations, bursaries developing business cases or proposals for funding, donor recognition or gifts (with the exception of gifts for Indigenous protocols)
Project expenses that are incurred before the application has been received
Capital and facility upgrades, renovations and construction
Debt reduction, financing charges and/or interest payments on loans

Required Documents

Project Budget Form
Most recent audited year-end financial statements, signed by 2 Board members or,
Most recent internally generated financial statements, those that are not presented either as a notice to reader, a review or an audit, signed by 2 Board members and must include a bank reconciliation and bank statement as at the fiscal year-end
