Independent Council Compensation Committee

The next independent review is scheduled to be conducted in 2024/2025 prior to the next Council term per Council Policy City Council Compensation C626.

2020 Committee

At the February 19, 2020, City Council meeting, Bylaw 19212 was passed, establishing the Independent Council Compensation Committee.

The Committee completed its mandate and presented its final report to Council on October 19, 2020. All recommendations were accepted by Council.  The Committee terminated on October 19, 2020 as per Bylaw 19212.

2017 Committee

At the June 27, 2017 City Council meeting, Bylaw 18119 was passed.  This established the Independent Council Compensation Committee with a mandate to review the salary of Council in light of economic changes, the recent federal removal of the non-taxable option and comparable municipalities.

The Committee reported its recommendations were approved by City Council on August 29, 2017.  The Committee terminated on August 31, 2017 as per Bylaw 18119.

2012/2013 Committee

At the December 14, 2011, City Council meeting, Bylaw 15969 was passed, establishing a new Independent Council Compensation Committee.  The Committee was comprised of five citizen members appointed by the City Manager.  During their term, committee members reviewed and made recommendations on the remuneration provided to Members of Council, including base salary, other forms of compensation, benefits, pensions, other allowances and market adjustment policies.  The Committee reported its recommendations to City Council on January 23, 2013.  The 2012/2013 Committee terminated on August 31, 2013 as per Bylaw 15969.
