Family Day, held on the third Monday of February, is a celebration centred around spending quality time with your loved ones.
Celebrate Family Day in Churchill Square and the Downtown Arts District
Join the Edmonton Arts Council in the heart of downtown for an afternoon of free, family-friendly activities and entertainment.

Take a spin on the City Hall ice rink on Family Day. Free skate rentals and skate aids will be available from noon–4pm on a first-come, first-served basis, weather permitting. Please check the ice rink notifications before heading out.

This Family Day, dance away the afternoon inside City Hall to Mibra-centric, alternative, afro-diasporan band Mbira Renaissance Band.

Visit the Art Gallery of Alberta for Family Day activities and entertainment, including AGA Bingo and a take-a-way art project.
- Laugh alongside Rapid Fire Theatre from noon–12:45pm
- Marvel at the technique of Taiko, the Japanese Art of Drumming, with performances by Booming Tree from 1:15-2pm and 3-3:45pm
The fun will also include child-friendly games and activities, art, music and more!

- 2pm: A concert featuring The Raven and the Thistle
- 1:30-4pm: An interactive workshop with storyteller Lorna Dancey

- 1:30–4:30pm: Head to the library’s Muttart Theatre to watch a special screening of Wapos Bay Marathon

On February 16, 2026, join us for a hands-on winter experience rooted in Indigenous and Inuit culture. Through throat singing, the lighting of the qulliq, and outdoor activities like snowshoe scavenger hunts and exploring traditional tools and tents, families can experience how knowledge, culture and stories are shared across generations.
Designed for all ages, this immersive day invites families to Fort Edmonton Park to learn together through movement, storytelling, and discovery, offering a welcoming and meaningful way to connect with Inuit culture in the heart of winter.

Most centres will be open on Family Day including St. Francis Xavier. Mill Woods’ wave pool will also be running during public swim times.

Alberta Legislature

Silver Skate Festival
Family Day is also the final day of the 36th annual Silver Skate Festival. Head to the festival’s temporary home in Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park to enjoy Edmonton’s longest running winter festival, featuring:

- A snow sculpture garden
- A folk trail
- Fire sculptures
- Public skating and much more
Free Ice Bike Rental
Throughout the weekend from 1–5pm, try out an Ice Bike, courtesy of WinterCity Edmonton and the City’s Outdoor Adventure Program, and glide around the ice.

Enjoy a family ski day on our trails and ice surfaces
Free skating and tobogganing are available at City of Edmonton outdoor ice surfaces and toboggan hills. Please be sure to check current ice conditions and hill conditions before heading out.
