Recreation Centre Maintenance Closures

As part of the City of Edmonton’s commitment to offering the highest quality facilities and amenities, scheduled maintenance is required to inspect and care for our facilities.

The following facilities are currently closed or partially closed for regular maintenance:

Bonnie Doon Leisure Centre

Confederation Leisure Centre

Kinsmen Sports Centre

Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre

Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre

Aquatic Closures: Bonnie Doon, Confederation, Kinsmen, Terwillegar

From August to October, aquatic centres at the following facilities will be closed:

Bonnie Doon: August 28 - October 18, 2023
Confederation: August 28 - September 8, 2023 (* only shallow tank closed)
Kinsmen Sports Centre: August 21 - October 9, 2023 (* only training pool and hot tub closed)
Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre: September 5 - October 26, 2023

* All other amenities at these facilities remain open as per regular operating hours.

Due to the disruption in scheduled facility closures during COVID, the City of Edmonton Recreation and Leisure Centres are working to schedule staggered required shutdowns to ensure our facilities are well maintained, clean and safe.

To help accommodate patron demand during the September and October long weekends:

Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool is remaining open until September 17, 2023, weather permitting
Commonwealth Aquatic Centre (currently under maintenance) is opening on Monday, September 4, 2023
Jasper Place will open on statutory holidays, September 30 and October 9, 2023 from 10am-4pm (all other small/medium facilities are closed)
Terwillegar will remain open during the September long weekend and will close afterwards on Tuesday, September 5 for maintenance

We are committed to our members. Accommodations will be offered to members based on user history at our facilities. While we are doing our best to limit disruptions, we are aware that changes impact our users and appreciate your patience as we resume a regular shutdown/maintenance schedule.

Facility Closure: Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre

Peter Hemingway is currently closed for rehabilitation and is anticipated to reopen in 2026.

Peter Hemingway Leisure Centre has been operating since 1971 and was identified as a priority for rehabilitation work to upgrade its 50-year-old mechanical, structural and electrical systems, building exterior, and roof. This work is important to ensure the facility can continue to provide aquatic and fitness experiences to Edmontonians for decades to come.
