Neighbourhood Renewal in McKernan is now complete.
Neighbourhood Renewal began in McKernan in 2017. The section of McKernan west of 114 Street was reconstructed along with Belgravia’s Neighbourhood Renewal.
Neighbourhood reconstruction is a type of neighbourhood renewal that involves road reconstruction and repaving, as well as replacement of street lights and reconstruction of sidewalks, curb and gutter. Alley renewal is not part of neighbourhood reconstruction.
It also includes the opportunity for 2 local improvements, sidewalk renewal and decorative street lights.
Neighbourhood Renewal has begun in McKernan. Please anticipate that the duration of construction in front of your residence may be up to 12 weeks (weather dependent).
The construction consists of removal and replacement of public sidewalk, curbs and gutters and reconstruction and paving of the road, as well as bike lane infrastructure along 76 Avenue. Street light replacement will be carried out, as required.
On Thursday February 9, 2017 City representatives presented detailed information regarding the final design including pedestrian and cycling improvements, what to expect during construction, and the local improvement process for the McKernan neighbourhood renewal project.

On October 6, 2015 the Building Great Neighbourhoods team met with the McKernan Community League Executive to share the City’s plans to renew and replace sanitary and storm sewers, reconstruct roads, curbs and sidewalks on City-owned property, and replace street lights, starting in 2017.
