About the Project

Alley renewal work was completed in 2020. Construction began in late May 2020 and was completed in early November 2020. During the 2020 construction season, we completed the following:

Removal and replacement of 24 alleys including minor concrete driveway repairs
Grind and pave of 4 alleys to reduce settlement or heaves caused by utility trench repair, improving drainage and extending overall design life of the alleys

Deficiency repair work and minor landscaping will be completed in spring 2021 that could not be completed due to weather constraints.

Project History

Project Update - August 2020

The alley renewal work started on the west side of the neighbourhood in May and moved east (see Scope Map). The work includes:

Removing the existing asphalt
Installing a new granular base
Replacing portions of concrete driveways as required to accommodate new grades and alignments
Placing a new asphalt followed by the restoration of the landscaping along the alley edge

Some of the alleys in the neighbourhood that were not initially included in the alley renewal project scope have been evaluated and added for grinding and paving. This investigation was conducted by a visual inspection of the existing alley surface and is required in order to prevent further maintenance concerns.

In 2020, EPCOR will be completing water main renewal in 2 alleys located between 86 Street to 87 Street and 122 Avenue to 123 Avenue as well as 96 Street to 97 Street and 124 Avenue to Yellowhead Trail. EPCOR's scope of work consists of replacing the water main and then fully reconstructing the alley.

Project Update - March 2020

Thank you to those who shared their feedback at the community drop-in event on November 6, 2019. The feedback received at the event, as well as by phone and email to the Project Manager by December 5, 2019, is now summarized in the What We Heard report.

The investigation of some alleys that were not initially included in the Delton Alley Renewal project scope is ongoing. If work to improve these alleys is going to occur, residents and property owners will be notified through a construction bulletin.

Project Update - November 2019

Thank you to those who shared their feedback at the community drop-in event on November 6, 2019. Attendees learned about the alley renewal program and what they can expect when the construction work begins.

They also had an opportunity to share their concerns about the state of their alley, including access and drainage, and to share considerations about their backyard, driveway tie-in and alley use that should be accounted for during construction.

The Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion team was also in attendance to share information about the program and the upcoming noise wall replacement.
