City of Edmonton Neighbourhood Services will be continuing the Neighbourhood Challenge into the summer and fall. We are challenging you to keep exploring your neighbourhood and safely connecting with those around you!
For our July challenge, we challenge you to celebrate your neighbourhood! Thank or acknowledge a friendly neighbour, a community volunteer or a well-kept yard. Tell us why you feel pride in your neighbourhood and the people in it. If you prefer to stay in, decorate your house and yard to show your neighbourhood pride.
For our August challenge, we challenge you to share what you have! If you have fruit-bearing trees or an abundance of veggies, offer your overflow to your neighbours. Maybe you have items to up-cycle or time to share by picking up litter in your neighbourhood.. If you prefer to stay in, take a picture of you with your new waste bins or share a photo or story showing what you do to look after the environment.
There are several ways to enter:
Tag us using #GetNeighbouring in a photo on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (make sure your post is public)
The Neighbourhood Challenge is open to all Edmonton residents over 18 years of age.
No purchase is needed to submit an entry to the Neighbourhood Challenge.
To enter, contestants can either tag a photo or story with #GetNeighbouring on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, or complete the online form located at edmonton.ca.
For privacy and security reasons, please do not include images of other people or their pets/domestic animals in your photos.
Prior to posting a photo including property that is not owned by the contestant, it is the sole responsibility of the contestant to request and receive consent from property owners and/or superintendents of the building or property.
Multiple submissions by a single contestant during the same month will be accepted as long as the submissions show different ways that the challenge is being completed by the contestant. Each submission will qualify for one entry each towards the random prize draw.
All submissions received within a calendar month (the 1st to the 31st) will be entered into the monthly prize draw. The draw will occur on the 2nd of each month and will be completed using a random selection web application. Three prizes per monthly challenge will be awarded to the first 3 names selected. With the contestant’s consent, photos of the winners with their prize will be posted in the City of Edmonton’s Keep Neighbouring e-newsletter compiled by Neighbourhood Services, on the City of Edmonton’s Facebook page, and on the Abundant Community Edmonton (ACE) Facebook page.
Prizes for monthly winners will be drawn at random and recipients will be notified within the first week of each month between June and November, 2021. Contestants who submit using #GetNeighbouring on social media will be contacted via the social media platform used for submitting their entry.
Submissions may originate in any image format (JPG, PNG, BMP, GIF, TIF) — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints and colour prints — so long as they are submitted electronically. JPG and PNG file types are recommended.
Any images submitted must be original and belong to the person submitting the photo, and the photographer has the right to authorize use and publication of the photograph(s). The photographer must declare that the photograph(s) have not been previously published or used by the City of Edmonton.
For privacy and security reasons, please do not include images of people or of pets/domestic animals in your photos. Refer to our FOIP statement below.
The online submission form must be completed fully in order for an online submission to be accepted. The limits for self-nominations and third-party nominations, as outlined above, are applicable.
Online submissions will be accepted starting on Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 until 11:59pm MST, Sunday, October 31, 2021. The City of Edmonton reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.

The City of Edmonton is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Neighbourhood Challenge, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions to the Neighbourhood Challenge.
