The Block Party/Play Street Program is currently not accepting applications. As we move through the City’s relaunch phase, it has been necessary for some changes to be made to our guidelines for these types of neighbourhood events. All neighbours participating in any events must follow all current Alberta Health Services advice relating to outdoor gatherings. We will provide an update as numbers for Outdoor Gathering are increased.
The focus of Block Parties is on building connections and relationships between neighbours living in the same street. Some communities also find it a great way to work together on a neighbourhood project.
The idea of a Play Street is to bring neighbours together and allow use of a space within the neighbourhood that is not actually inviting for celebration or play. They allow neighbours to play together in residential streets closed off to vehicle traffic.
The City supports both Block Parties and Play Street events through planning, operational and permitting support.
