This project is developing the new Rollie Miles Recreation Centre - a vibrant community hub to inspire local recreation participation and showcase how a new facility can respond to climate change pressures.

The Rollie Miles Recreation Centre project is funded for the planning and preliminary design, but detailed design and construction are currently unfunded.
The Rollie Miles Recreation Centre will be a small recreation facility that responds to the facility assessment, demographics and community needs. The facility will replace Scona Pool which is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The project is currently funded for the planning and preliminary design. Detailed design and construction are currently unfunded.
The planned location for the new facility is identified in the (20MB). While this project is separate from the Rollie Miles District Park Renewal project, both project teams maintain close communication and recognize coordination is important for design alignment, community engagement and project success.
Based on past community consultation, this recreation centre should include the following features:
The project includes the eventual demolition of Scona Pool and the City-owned building currently leased by the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues. Both these facilities are nearing the end of their lifecycle.
The existing tennis courts are planned to be rebuilt further west to allow sufficient space for the Recreation Centre and related amenities.
This project is closely tied to the Rollie Miles Master Plan and District park renewal. The following history applies to the Strategy development of both projects.

Exploring Options and Setting Direction
The functional program will include the prioritized activities and services that could be included in a new Community Recreation Centre in Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park.

Collecting input from public, community advisory committee, and City staff which will be analyzed and used to develop a draft functional program.
Reengage stakeholder committees to prepare for public engagement around development of a detailed program (functional program) for a Community Recreation Centre.
The draft Master Plan was shared at the Community and Public Services Committee September 12, 2016. As a result, City Council passed the following motion on September 21, 2016:
Reestablishing the Community Advisory Committee that supported the Public Involvement Plan and engagement activities in the first phases of the master plan project.
Complete Preferred concept design, technical site review, develop business case.
