Current Activity

The City of Edmonton and its partners are beginning preliminary work in advance of enhancement project construction over the next 2-3 years.

Environmental Impact Assessment and Site Location Study

An Environmental Impact Assessment and Site Location Study were completed and approved by the Executive Committee of Council (Item 6.14) on July 4, 2017.

Historical Resources Act

Provincial approval for the project was provided on September 22, 2016 (new attractions) and May 8, 2018 (utility enhancement).

Project Overview

Fort Edmonton Park is in the midst of a $165 million enhancement that will offer exciting new experiences for Edmontonians and visitors.

New features and exhibits include:

  • Enhancement of existing underground utilities
  • Indigenous Peoples' Experience: new exhibit feature at Fort Edmonton Park
  • Johnny J. Jones Exposition (Midway): new attractions added to Fort Edmonton’s Park's midway
  • Guest Services Building and Entry Plaza: Streamlined and improved access to Fort Edmonton Park
  • Hotel Selkirk Expansion - Addition of family-friendly rooms and event space
  • Freight Shed Extension: improved viewing area for the model railway exhibit
  • Streetcar Barn: increased service area for the street cars

Bird’s Eye View

The impact on daily heritage programming in the summers of 2019 and 2020 cannot be fully defined at this time. While it is certain that some interruption in operations will occur, the Park will endeavour to maintain as much activity as possible. Signature Events like the Spooktacular, Entertainment Events like Cinema Series and Private Events like Corporate Parties will continue throughout construction.
