The Coliseum Demolition Project is separate from the Edmonton Spectrum Demolition Project, which began on-site work in fall 2025.
About the Project
For 43 years, the Coliseum (formerly known as the Northlands Coliseum, Rexall Place, Skyreach Centre and the Edmonton Coliseum) was an indoor arena that hosted various events and was home to multiple professional sports teams. After its closure, the City of Edmonton determined that the best option for the future of the site was to demolish the vacant facility.
The Coliseum Demolition Project will involve hazardous materials abatement, tree and shrub removals (where necessary), site remediation, as well as demolition of the Coliseum building and specific site infrastructure and decommissioning of relevant site utilities, located at 7424 118 Avenue NW.
This project will ensure the Coliseum site retains flexibility for future long-term development that aligns with the Edmonton Exhibition Lands Planning Framework (10.03 MB) and Implementation Strategy.
The planning, design and construction associated with any future long-term development are not part of the demolition project.
