Project Update - November 2018

Input gathered through public engagement has been used to help develop draft concept plans for enhancements to the public space around Petrolia Mall. The draft concepts include landscaping, trees, seating spaces, trash receptacles and decorative street lights to enhance the space, make it more pedestrian-friendly and beautify the Petrolia Mall area.

We gathered public feedback on the Petrolia Mall draft concepts at the Royal Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal event on November 8, 2018. Planning is now underway for a public engagement opportunity in early 2019 to gather additional feedback which will be used to help refine and adapt the draft concepts to develop a finalized plan.

Watch for more information about the upcoming opportunity to share your feedback!

About the Project

As part of the City's Economic Development Plan, we are working to create a vibrant, livable city including making enhancements to the public realm around neighbourhood commercial centres. The public area next to Petrolia Mall, located at the southwest corner of 40 Avenue and 111 Street, has been selected for these enhancements.

Project History

Concept Phase - June 2018

The City has used input gathered through public engagement to develop draft concept plans for the public space enhancements around Petrolia Mall. The draft concept plans were available for public feedback at the Royal Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal event held on June 27 at Royal Gardens Community League. The concepts include landscaping, trees, seating spaces and decorative lights to enhance the space, make it more pedestrian-friendly and beautify the Petrolia Mall area. Planning is underway for additional public engagement opportunities over the summer.

Public Engagement - April 2017

To ensure potential enhancements to the public space around Petrolia Mall reflect the surrounding communities priorities and aspirations, the City asked for input through an open house and survey in 2017. Input gathered has been used in the development of the draft concepts.
