Pregnancy and Infant Loss Program
The hospitals in the Edmonton area in conjunction with various funeral homes, Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries and City of Edmonton Cemeteries offer services for the interment of babies who have passed away prior to going home from the hospital.
Families who have lost a baby, no matter what the age of gestation, are able to participate in the pregnancy and infant program. The burial takes place approximately three months after the passing, however due to confidentiality, families are not permitted to attend the actual burial. Babies are placed into individual ornamental chests and will share the burial site with other babies. Funeral homes and cemeteries rotate in handling these burials at no cost to the families.
After the burial has taken place, you may contact the cemetery to view the burial site. Memorialization options, such as a name plaque are available; however, there are costs associated. Please contact the cemetery for more information.
