About the Project
Roadways and water lines at Edmonton Cemetery have been identified by Lifecycle Management as needing renewal. These assets are near the end of their lifecycle and renewal work is part of the overall City plan to maintain City assets for public use.
The roads will be renewed by resurfacing and repaving sections depending on their current state.
A new waterline will be installed to replace the existing line. The alignment and locations of the hose bibs will be in the same general area as the existing ones.
The project will also see the walking trail in the northeast section of the cemetery being replaced. It is currently a gravel pathway and will be upgraded to concrete to be consistent with the existing path.
The City of Edmonton acknowledges this is a sensitive site and we will take great care while working in the cemetery. We are working closely with those who manage the site and no interred remains will need to be relocated as a result of the work.
This work is scheduled to begin in May 2023 and will take 6 months. There will be limited access to the cemetery while construction is ongoing. Construction activities will be coordinated with Cemetery Operations to prevent disruption to their scheduled internment activities.
This project has a budget of $2 million.
