Apartment and Condo Collection Program Development (2020-2021)
To help inform changes to apartment and condo collection, public engagement was conducted from October 2020 to February 2021. The input was used to inform program recommendations, including decisions around colocation of waste containers, communication and education tactics. Program implementation will begin Fall 2023.
We gathered input from stakeholders and residents of multi-unit buildings about their needs, barriers and potential solutions for introducing mandatory waste sorting to multi-unit buildings. Feedback was gathered through focus groups, online workshops, phone interviews and one-on-one meetings over the phone.
We conducted a phone survey and four focus groups to ask participants about their current waste habits, and their willingness to support future changes to residential waste programs and services, such as:
Separating food scraps from other types of garbage
Volume limits for garbage
Ceasing collection of grass clippings in the garbage
