A Final Report including Financial Report (Budget) is required for all Neighbourhood(s) Micro Grant recipients.

The Neighbourhood(s) Micro Grant provides residents, businesses owners and operators, non-profit organizations with up to $500 in funding. Funding is available for projects that demonstrate they will:

  • Increase community connections to build a sense of community and community ownership
  • Create opportunities for people to work with others beyond their circle to create new working relationships and potential partnerships
  • Inspire community volunteers to make their neighbourhoods the place they want them to be
  • Engage assets already in the community and build community capacity
  • Offer practical applications and valuable lessons for caring neighbours who want to make a difference

Or, if you are in a Revitalization area, projects that demonstrate they will advance the Neighbourhood Revitalization Strategy for that area.

Microgrant projects can include, but are not limited to:

  • Block parties,
  • Community arts,
  • Neighbourhood social or
  • Recreation activities

Applicants can apply for only 1 City of Edmonton grant for a particular element of their project or initiative.

What is Eligible for Neighbourhood Micro-Grant Funding?

Projects could include but are not limited to:

  • Enhancing community safety
  • Inspiring community connections
  • Celebrating multicultural connections/awareness
  • Promoting beautification and cleanliness
  • Building community capacity
  • Advancing arts in the community

The following are not eligible for funding:

  • Projects that have already been completed
  • Ongoing operating expenses or salaries of an organization
  • Facility maintenance or repair
  • Events that charge admission
  • Alcohol or cannabis
  • Expenses incurred prior to the date of application will not be reimbursed.
What Is the Funding Amount?

Up to $500, depending on project or event scope and criteria. Applicants can apply for only one City of Edmonton grant for a particular element of their project or initiative.

Evaluation of Applications

Micro Grant applications are evaluated by the City of Edmonton using the following criteria.

The project must:

  • Be feasible
  • Directly involve residents, businesses, property owners, community organizations, and/or other stakeholders
  • Benefit the area (for example, the project must create a positive change in the area)
  • Foster a sense of community spirit (for example, the project must bring the community together, and create connections and interactions)
  • Leave a legacy, such as an annual event, a physical change, or greater community capacity
What are the Final Report Requirements for the Neighbourhood Micro Grant?

All Neighbourhood Micro-Grant fund recipients must submit a Final Report within 30 days of the completion of the initiative.  Your Final Report will state how the funds were used.  Fund recipients must demonstrate how the initiative met outcomes of enhancing community connections or capacity for safe, healthy and vibrant communities.

Note: Fund recipient eligibility for future funding through the City of Edmonton is dependent on a complete Final Report verified as received by the Grants Office. 

Micro-Grant Final Report 

To prepare for filling out the Final Report Form please gather:

  • Information on how your initiative met the goals for your neighbourhood
  • Examples of your advertising/marketing material and posts
  • Have your copy of the Financial Report (budget) ready to include actual revenue and expenses.  This is the budget you submitted with either your Neighbourhood Micro Grant or Revitalization Micro Grant. 
  • Copies of receipts
    Your Financial Report with actual expenses and receipts must be included in your Final Report Package.
  • Number of initiative attendees
  • Photos *optional - ensure you have permission to share identifiable photos prior to submission.

Note: If you do not have a copy of the Financial Report (budget) submitted with your application, please call the Grants Office for assistance at 780-496-4933.  Otherwise, you can create a new Micro Grant Financial Report (Budget) with the actual expense portion completed.  No matching component is required for the Neighbourhood(s) Micro-Grant.

Terms of Use and Right to Audit

The funds received shall not be intended or used for a purpose beyond the objectives outlined by this grant. The Applicant must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and manage its finances.
