Facilitated by two of our program staff, registered group plantings are hands-on educational opportunities that are fun and inclusive. This group volunteer opportunity is perfect for team building, families, students, clubs and community groups.

How to Book a Registered Planting Program
Please book your registered planting program online through Better Impact. Please note that Root for Trees has assigned the planting location quadrants for all programs. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Visit Better Impact and submit an application form for all registered planting programs. Once you have submitted your application, Root for Trees will review it and you will then be accepted as a volunteer in the system.
As an accepted volunteer, you will be able to view and sign up for registered group plantings on our calendar. Each program will have an assigned date, time, and location quadrant. Sign up for the one that works for your group, you will then be the group leader signing up on behalf of your group. If a registered program is not available for a certain day or time, it is fully booked.
Your sign up will then be pending once Root for Trees approves your request, you will be assigned to an event.
Root for Trees will send you a follow up confirmation email once you are assigned to the program you signed up for.
Interested in a Registered Group Planting Program?
Registered programs are scheduled from Tuesday-Saturday, from May-October. Please note that programs are subject to availability.
Program Cancelation Policy: The City of Edmonton retains the right to modify or cancel the program in the case of inclement weather and/or public safety. Registrants will be notified of any changes to the program status.
Each registered program will have a pre-assigned location. When booking your program, please select a program in the quadrant of the City you would like to volunteer. Once your volunteer program is confirmed, Root for Trees will send you a map of the specific planting location with detailed instructions of how to get there and where to park.
All training is provided on site. Root for Trees Program Leaders will be present to provide a planting demonstration, safety talk, answer questions and share interesting facts about Edmonton’s urban forest. All safety protocols communicated must be followed while volunteering.
Arrive on or slightly before the start time of your scheduled program to get the most out of your volunteer experience. You will be greeted by Root for Trees staff members who will provide your group with a Volunteer Sign-In, Liability Waiver to sign and planting gloves.
All the planting supplies, including shovels and plant material will be ready on site. Please wear comfortable clothing, dress for the weather and bring a bottle of water and snacks.
All volunteers entering the planting area must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. If proper footwear is not worn, volunteers will be unable to participate. All safety protocols communicated must be followed while volunteering.
