Root for Trees holds special events throughout our planting season that celebrate both Edmonton's urban forest and our communities.

We are hosting the following events in 2024.

Connect With Our Roots

Date: June 1
Time: 10am-12:30pm
Location: 210 Dunvegan Road NW

June celebrates National Indigenous History Month to honour the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous Peoples.

Root for Trees is celebrating Indigenous culture and ‘connecting with our roots’ by learning about how Indigenous knowledge connects with nature, including the native species we plant on Treaty Six Territory.

Join us for a tree planting event, along with various Indigenous led activities in our celebration!

Tree Planting for Biodiversity

Date: June 13
Time: 6-8:30pm
Location: Rundle Park

In honour of the annual Summer Biodiversity Challenge, Nature Alberta and Root for Trees are teaming up for an incredible evening of tree planting and citizen science!

Participants will split into 2 groups:

Group 1 - will join Root for Trees for a tree planting volunteer experience
Group 2 - will join Nature Alberta as we explore what citizen science is, why it's important, and add our own observations to iNaturalists and eBird

After 45 minutes, the groups will rotate to the other activity!

Food Forest

Date: August 24
Time: 10am-12:30pm
Location: Ormsby

Root for Trees is expanding the Food Forest at Ormsby!

Come check out which native fruit-bearing trees and shrubs grow in Edmonton. You might be surprised at the amount of biodiversity we have in our own backyard.

Help us plant these life-sustaining plants to become a source of food for our pollinators and other wildlife.

National Tree Day

Date: September 25
Time: 4-6:30pm
Location: Hermitage Park

Celebrate National Tree Day with Tree Canada and Root for Trees! Enjoy the great outdoors and learn about the many benefits of the urban forest.

The Event will kick off with brief speeches from Root for Trees and Tree Canada about National Tree Day, and include tree planting, family - friendly activities and more.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Date: September 30
Location: Kinsmen Park

To recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Root for Trees encourages citizens to reflect on Residential schools and their lasting impacts to generations of people.

Root for Trees will be giving away trees, shrubs and wildflowers as a way to honour the victims, families, friends, and intergenerational survivors. Edmontonians are invited to pick-up a plant, speak with an Elder and engage in other indigenous led activities. We encourage fellow Edmontonians to do the same and join us, the Indigenous Relations Office and the Orange Shirt Day Walk/Run for this event.
