The BREATHE team asked about how the current open space system is working well, issues that are affecting open spaces, and improvements that could be made.
This Report reviews the context of open space planning in Canada. The report is organized around the three Breathe project themes - Celebration, Ecology and Wellness - and the open space functions of each.

Almost 300 respondents completed the spatial survey and we received about 1300 comments on our giant map of Edmonton.

“Let’s Talk Parks” Speaker Series Event at City Hall

This was part of an event in the "City's Great Ideas. Great City. " Speaker Series in collaboration with the City-Region Studies Centre, Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta.
Let's Talk Parks featured Nina-Marie Lister, a respected planner, academic and writer from Ryerson University, whose work explores the relationship between landscape ecology and urbanism.
Noon: Condensed talk by Prof. Lister, with introductory remarks by Mayor Don Iveson, Chief Planner Peter Ohm, and Dr. Katy Campbell, Dean of the Faculty of Extension.
Evening: Main event included the full talk by Prof. Lister. Following Prof. Lister's presentation was a Question and Answer session. Our host and moderator was Dr. Kevin Jones from the City-Region Studies Centre. Joining Prof. Lister were Peter Ohm, Chief Planner, and Dr. Candace Nykiforuk from the U of A School of Public Health and Place Research Lab.
