Breathe held many engagement sessions throughout the project to help shape Edmonton's Green Network Strategy.

Throughout the project, 47 engagement events were held to connect with communities on their ideas about our parks and open space system. Through these opportunities:

1200 people engaged in discussions about the city’s open space system
2500 people were engaged through online surveys

Breathe’s engagement approach of “going where the people are” led team members to 11 festivals throughout the summer months where valuable public input was received.

We received lots of valuable input that helped us finalise the Breathe Strategic Plan, which will go to Council in summer 2017.

Highlights of the Strategy were shared at two events at City Hall.
Hard copies of the draft and survey were also available at City libraries for viewing.

This Report reviews the current state of Edmonton’s Green Network using a series of analyses that reflect the holistic perspective of the project. The purpose of this report is to give rise to an understanding of the demand for open spaces in the City of Edmonton.

Thank you for attending our Let's Talk Park Open House sessions. We received valuable information that will help inform and shape the future of Edmonton's green network.

We shared strategic directions that were identified based on spatial analysis of open space supply and demand in Edmonton, and internal and external consultations.

This was an important stage for input and feedback because the strategic directions that were shared, will help to inform policy development and form the Breathe Strategy.

This Report reviews the current state of the Edmonton open space system using a series of analyses that reflect the holistic perspective of the project. Together, these analyses provide a snapshot of the quantity, quality, connectivity and accessibility of Edmonton’s green network.

Online Questionnaire and Mapping Survey

Thank you for completing the online surveys and providing your input on the future of the Green Network.

Almost 300 respondents completed the spatial survey and we received about 1300 comments on our giant map of Edmonton.

For our Online Questionnaire, we received close to 4000 responses!

“Let’s Talk Parks” Speaker Series Event at City Hall

This was part of an event in the "City's Great Ideas. Great City. " Speaker Series in collaboration with the City-Region Studies Centre, Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta.

Let's Talk Parks featured Nina-Marie Lister, a respected planner, academic and writer from Ryerson University, whose work explores the relationship between landscape ecology and urbanism.

Noon: Condensed talk by Prof. Lister, with introductory remarks by Mayor Don Iveson, Chief Planner Peter Ohm, and Dr. Katy Campbell, Dean of the Faculty of Extension.

Evening: Main event included the full talk by Prof. Lister. Following Prof. Lister's presentation was a Question and Answer session. Our host and moderator was Dr. Kevin Jones from the City-Region Studies Centre. Joining Prof. Lister were Peter Ohm, Chief Planner, and Dr. Candace Nykiforuk from the U of A School of Public Health and Place Research Lab.
