In recent years, the City of Edmonton has gained international recognition for its Smart City efforts.
Edmonton is among the 2017 finalists for Intelligent Community of the Year as awarded by the Intelligent Community Forum. Edmonton as a community was recognized as one of the 2017 Top 7 Intelligent Communities, in part due to our strong relationships with local businesses, post-secondary institutions and not-for-profits. For more information on the recognition, see The Innovation of Edmonton.
In 2017, Edmonton's Open City Initiative also received the Gold Prize in the Open City Category of the WeGO Smart Sustainable City Awards, which recognize cities and local governments around the world for their use of information and communications technology, e-Government and Smart City innovations.
Past recognitions also include:
- 2016 GTEC Award of Distinction for the Open City Initiative
- 2015 Canadian Open Data Award
- 2008 and 2015 named one of the Smart21 Intelligent Communities by the Intelligent Community Forum
