The City of Edmonton is committed to the principles of integrated pest management, a holistic approach used to prevent and manage pest problems at acceptable levels through effective, economical and environmentally sound methods.

Although a variety of techniques and methods are used to discourage the conditions under which pests thrive, sometimes it becomes necessary to use pesticides.  The City of Edmonton employs applicators licensed by Alberta Environment and Parks, and only uses pesticides approved for use by Health Canada‚Äôs Pest Management Regulatory Agency according to label directions.

For information about opting out of pest management programs, see Reducing Exposure to Pesticides. For regular updates of the location of pest control activities on City lands, call the Spray-line at 780-423-1378.

Citizens can apply for increased restrictions on pesticide use.

The City of Edmonton is committed to turf maintenance practices which make economic and environmental sense. The City also offers programs to discontinue spraying in restricted areas.

The City is trying to eliminate non-essential uses of herbicides on city-owned land.
