C627 Climate Resilience Policy

In association with the City's declaration of a Climate Emergency in August 2019, a revised Energy Transition Strategy was presented to and adopted by Council on April 19, 2021.  At the same time Council adopted a new Climate Resilient Policy C627 and rescinded Policies C532 (Sustainable Building Policy) and C585 (Energy Transition Strategy Policy) .   

C627 Climate Resilient Policy aligns with the strategic goal of Climate Resilience in ConnectedEdmonton, the Big City Move of Greener as we Grow in The City Plan and the City leadership actions that are set out in the Revised Energy Transition Strategy. 

Six new Administrative Procedures have been drafted to provide direction on how Administration is expected to activate C627. These procedures focus on City Buildings 

• Climate Resilient Design and Construction of City Buildings - this procedure may impact everyone who is funding, or building new buildings at the City of Edmonton. 
• Climate Resilient Existing City Buildings  - this procedure may impact everyone who operates out of, maintains, or upgrades City buildings.
• Climate Resilient Acquisition of City Buildings - this procedure may impact everyone who is acquiring (or funding the acquisition of) new buildings at the City of Edmonton.
• Climate Resilient City Building Leasing - City as Landlord - this procedure impacts everyone who is a tenant or is supporting tenants of the City of Edmonton.
• Climate Resilient City Building Leasing - City as Tenant - this procedure may impact all City areas that are leasing space as a tenant in non-city buildings. 
• Climate Resilient City-Funded, Non-City Owned Buildings - this procedure may impact all City areas that are funding building projects external to the City of Edmonton.
