A Sewer and Water Permit is required under the City's Safety Codes Permit Bylaw 15894 when installing, altering or relocating sewer and water equipment including:

  • Sewer lines
  • Storm or sanitary sewers
  • Water lines
  • Water connections

2023 Fees

Effective January 1, 2023

Sewer and water permit fees are listed in the ​ 2023 Building and Trade Permit Fees ​.

Weeping Tile

Weeping tile can be connected to your storm sewer system, provided a connection is available. The system must run through a backwater valve that is accessible from the basement of your building.

Inspection

After the work is complete, an inspection of the equipment is required.

All concealed equipment must be inspected and approved before covering.

If the work has not been inspected but has been covered, the inspector has the authority to re-open the area for inspection.

Booking an Inspection

A permit must be obtained prior to booking an inspection.

Additional Inspections

Additional fees  shall be assessed for every inspection requested where any of the following items are found to be deficient:

  • No address on site, building, or suite as applicable
  • Inspector unable to access the building
  • Project not ready for inspection
  • A previously identified deficiency has not been corrected
