The 2026 Servus Edmonton Marathon, known far and wide as the “friendly” marathon, is back! This premier summer event attracts thousands of participants and spectators from around the world.

The City of Edmonton is proud to host the 35th running of the Servus Edmonton Marathon, bringing our active communities together.

Date: Sunday August 16, 2026
Time: 7am-2:30pm

This year, the event is projected to attract 10,000 participants and generate a significant economic impact for Edmonton.

Road Closures and Traffic Delays

The race route starts and finishes at the Edmonton Convention Centre located at 97 Street and Jasper Avenue. As a result:

  • All lanes on Jasper Avenue from 95 Street to 116 Street will be closed from 6am-3pm
  • There is a partial road closure on Jasper Avenue from 116 Street to 124 Street. Please use 104 Avenue or 107 Avenue as your alternate route. Driving across the marathon course could result in delays of up to an hour

Downtown Access

Impacts to downtown Edmonton will begin at 6:30pm on Friday August 14 and end by 4pm on Sunday August 16, with the major delays occurring on Sunday.  

On Sunday August 16, 2026, expect major traffic delays from 6am-4pm, especially in and out of downtown. Please plan ahead.

Neighbourhood Access

Many areas of the race route will allow local access only, meaning residents will be able to access and leave their homes. Please plan ahead and expect delays.

  • Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods east of the Edmonton Convention Centre will start at 6:45 am and end at approximately 10:30am
  • Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods west of the Edmonton Convention Centre will start at 6:30am and end at approximately 4pm

Residential streets in the neighbourhoods of Cromdale, Virginia Park, Bellevue, Boyle Street, Highlands, Beverly Heights, Rundle Heights, Wîhkwêntôwin, Glenora, Crestwood and Parkview will be impacted. 

Residents are asked not to park on the route and to follow directions from race course marshals.

Parking

Parking restrictions on the event route will be in effect.

Access to a number of parking facilities will be impacted from Friday August 14 at 6pm to Sunday August 16 at 4pm. Parking facilities impacted include:

  • Canada Place East and West Parkades
  • Stanley A. Milner Library Parkade
  • Sun Life Parkade
  • KRP Tower
  • Diamond and Impark lots on 99 Street, south of Jasper Avenue
  • Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
  • DoubleTree by Hilton hotel
  • Surface lots along 101A Avenue, between 96 Street and 97 Street

Edmonton Transit Service Impacts

With no north/south traffic at 109 Street and 116 Street along Jasper Avenue, a number of ETS routes will be detoured, and some bus stops will be closed during the event. 

Routes impacted include:

  • Route 101: between 5 -10:30am
  • Routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 110X, 511, 701, 900X, 901 and 902: between 5am - 3:30pm

Please be advised that Routes 2, 5, 111 and 900X will have additional detours to accommodate setup and tear down for the marathon. The detours will run from:

  • 6pm on August 14 - 4am on August 16 for setup
  • 4 -11pm on August 16 for tear down

Plan ahead and leave extra travel time for your trip. Use the Capital Line, Metro Line or Valley Line Southeast LRT to travel to and through downtown.
