The new red panda habitat and play space gives zoo visitors a chance to Get Closer to one of the zoo’s most popular species. Children, in particular, will have an up-close view of the pandas in the new adjacent play area.

The new red panda building can house up to 4 breeding pairs, which is essential to the zoo’s participation in the international Red Panda Species Survival Plan. Red pandas have been classified as endangered in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List since 2008 with their population numbers continuing to decline.
