Please do your part to keep you and your pets safe in off-leash parks with water features. Practice ice safety by keeping pets away from all bodies of water and ice. The thickness of the ice can be deceiving and there are weak areas that can give way at any moment.

Tips To Keep Your Pup Safe

  • Ensure your dog obeys your voice commands before going near a body of water.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and keep your dog in sight at all times.
  • If necessary, keep your dog on a leash around water during fall and spring freeze-thaw cycles (typically between November to December and March to April).
  • It is never safe to walk on the ice of the North Saskatchewan River, no matter the season.
The thickness of the ice can be deceiving.

If a dog or a person falls in the water call 911 immediately. This includes the river, a stormwater pond, drainage outfall or other water body. Keep an eye on the individual or pet but do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Once everyone is out of immediate danger please report any incidents or close calls to 311.

#goodyegdog Giveaway!

We want to learn how you and your dog can help keep Edmonton’s off leash parks clean and safe. We created a contest to help you show us!

We are selecting three monthly winners over the course of January to April 2018 and one additional grand prize winner in April 2018!

How to Enter the Contest

Each month of the contest will focus on a different way you and your dog can help keep Edmonton’s off leash parks clean and safe. Each month will involve a new theme (a fun question) being released using the hashtag #goodyegdog.

To enter, post a photo of your pet in one of the city’s off leash dog parks on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Along with the photo, use the hashtag #goodyegdog and answer the following theme question:

  • Month #1 Theme Question (from January 26, 2018 to February 28, 2018): How do you and your dog stay safe near the ice in off-leash areas? #goodyegdog

  • Month #2 Theme Question (from March 1, 2018 to March 28, 2018):  How do you keep our off-leash parks clean? #goodyegdog

  • Month #3 Theme Question (from April 1, 2018 to April 25, 2018): How do you work to foster positive relationships with cyclists, joggers, and others in off-leash areas? #goodyegdog

Only one entry is allowed per dog for each monthly theme question.

The contest will run from January 26, 2018 to April 25, 2018.  We randomly draw one winner per theme month from all entries for each theme month. Then we randomly draw one grand prize winner from all entries at the end of the contest.
