Free public skating is available year-round. Staff and skate assists are on site during all public skating times. Helmets are not required, however highly recommended.
Equipment not permitted during public skating includes: strollers, sleds, hockey sticks, pucks, and balls. Please do not bring your personal belongings to public skates.
Types of Public Skating
- Public Skate
Our general open public skating times strategically spread across most arenas in the city during various times to provide equitable opportunities.
- Parents and Tots, Sticks and Pucks
Opportunities available for parent and toddlers to either skate freely or allow their tots to play with sticks and pucks. Ice is available during non-peak time.
- Older Adult Skate
An opportunity designated to older adults during non-peak low volume times providing a safer opportunity.
- Figure Skating
An opportunity made available for general public to practice figure skating elements and moves, as performing figure skates during other public skates are not permitted.
- Early Morning Fitness Skate-Adult Only
An opportunity targeted to adults with a focus around skating for fitness; this opportunity aligns with other promoted fitness opportunities intended to drive early morning facility participation.
- Early Morning Public Skate
Public skating opportunities for everyone at indoor arenas.
- Member Figure Skating
An opportunity made available for City of Edmonton staff members (wristbands required) to drop in and practice figure skating elements and moves, as performing figure skates during other public skates are not permitted.
- Member Open Skate
Our general public skating times specifically for City of Edmonton staff members (wristband required) spread across community recreation facilities in the City.
- Community League Skate (Downtown Community Arena Only)
Public skating opportunities for members of the six downtown community leagues and affiliated agencies.
