The population of Oliver is projected to double in the next 40 years, meaning more population density and mixed-use spaces. Residents will need local spaces and places to meet their recreation, social and community needs.
As part of the Approach to Community Recreation Facility Planning, every citizen should have access to an indoor recreational opportunity within a 5-kilometre radius of their home.
Recreation opportunities need to reflect the density, now and in the future, and the diversity of the people who live in Oliver.

Over 370 ideas were collected from community residents and stakeholders, and have been grouped into 4 key themes of the long-term recreation vision for Oliver: vibrant community hub; multipurpose, all-season outdoor amenities; community access and connectivity; and high level of functional design.
We are excited to introduce Bang the Table's Engagement HQ, an interactive online engagement tool, which allows you to submit your ideas and see your neighbour’s inputs in real time.

Over 120 ideas were collected on pop-up boards between August 12 - September 19, 2019 on what would make it easier to spend more free time in Oliver and ideas for future recreation.
A recreation needs assessment survey was available October 18 - November 11, 2019. 347 people provided insights on their current recreational activities and ideas for future recreation.

We are using the Oliver neighbourhood boundary, as determined by the City of Edmonton. The basic commitment in the City's Approach to Recreational Facility Planning is that at least 1 recreation centre is within a 5-kilometre distance. Based on the residential address of Oliver residents, some recreational facilities will be closer than others. Depending on the resident's address, a number of options meet that criterion.
