Improving streetscapes to focus on a green and walkable Downtown will make it a more attractive and desirable place for people of all ages.

The vision for a green and walkable downtown includes improvements to downtown streets that will make Downtown more accessible, easier to navigate and more pleasant for pedestrians.

Streetscape improvements may include wider sidewalks, more trees, street furniture, pedestrian wayfinding signs, and higher-quality paving materials.

These improvements will encourage more people to use the streets for walking and cycling. The Downtown will be a more attractive, safe, and desirable place for people of all ages.

Streetscape improvements will be constructed over the next 15 to 20 years.

Downtown Streetscapes Manual

The City is developing a Downtown Streetscape Typology and Manual to ensure a consistent standard for these improvements, and to allow the City to manage and operate the streets efficiently.

The manual will establish a framework for how Downtown sidewalks are designed and constructed, and will identify street furnishings , like benches and street lights, that complement neighbourhood character.
