Certain types of waste are not suitable for typical processing and disposal and require special handling.

Accepted Items

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre will accept and process the following types of special-handling waste at $100 per tonne (with a minimum charge of $100):

* Black soil/organic soil or soil mixtures are not accepted. If material is primarily clay or primarily gravel, test results confirming the material is not contaminated are required. The tests are Total Metals, Total Hydrocarbons (F1-F4), Total BTEX, pH, and flashpoint.

If material is deemed contaminated, it will not be accepted.

Apply for a Waste Identification Number (WID#)

A Waste Identification Number (WID#) is a pre-approval for special waste.
