On September 16, 2013, Council approved the Mill Woods Station Area Redevelopment Plan (Bylaw 16408). It recognizes the area's strategic location within southeast Edmonton and will guide its transition from primarily low-density, auto-oriented environment towards a more vibrant, mixed-use community. This will complement the surrounding neighbourhoods and establish a true urban centre.

The goals of the station area plan are to:

  • Determine a vision for transit oriented development in Mill Woods.
  • Facilitate appropriate development in the station area.
  • Respect the unique character and history of the Mill Woods area.

The project occurred in five phases:

Phase 1: Collection of background information
(Aug – Nov 2011)

Phase 2: Exploration and evaluation of alternatives
(Dec 2011 – May 2012)

Phase 3: Preparation of draft station area plan and zoning
(June – Nov 2012)

Phase 4: Approval of the final plan
(Dec 2012 – Sept 2013)

Phase 5: Adoption
(September 16, 2013)

Opportunities for public input were provided for each phase of the project. The City will share information as planning details become available.
