April 6, 2017: Shared Roadway Workshop

Following the Community Event on December 8, 2016, City staff determined there was a need for further engagement to address the section of the shared-use path on 117 Street between 41 Avenue and 43 Avenue.

The project team hosted a Shared Roadway Workshop on April 6, 2017, inviting key stakeholder groups including representatives from the schools, community league and residents of 117 Street.

Feedback from the workshop contributed to a design solution that the project team believes balances the needs of both the residents of 117 Street and overall path users. The final report, along with the ultimate proposed design, was scheduled to be brought to the Urban Planning Committee meeting on May 24, 2017.

Citizens were invited to attend the committee meeting, and the final approved design posted after the Urban Planning Committee meeting.

July 2015: Bike Lane Removals

On-street bike routes were installed on 40 Avenue in 2013 but faced opposition from the community who felt they were not sufficiently consulted in the planning process.

In July 2015 City Council passed a motion to remove the bike lanes on 40 Avenue from 119 Street to 106 Street; and on 106 Street from Whitemud Drive to 34 Avenue.

June 2015: Community Events and Survey

Over 300 people attended the community events and completed the bike lane survey.
