The City of Edmonton is supporting citizens and businesses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing flexible payment options for 2020 property taxes.

The payment deadline is June 30 but, this year, late-payment penalties on unpaid taxes will not be charged until September 1, 2020. If you are able to pay your property taxes by the usual deadline of June 30, we encourage you to do so. Your contribution will help us to continue providing municipal services during these challenging times.

Flexible Payment Options

Lump Sum Annual Payments

If you pay property taxes in a lump sum once a year, we encourage you to pay by June 30. However, if you are experiencing financial difficulty, you have the option to delay your payment until August 31, 2020, without incurring any late-payment penalties. Your full annual payment will be due at that time.

Taxes Paid Through Mortgage

If you pay property taxes through your mortgage, your mortgage lender submits payment to the City on your behalf. If you are facing financial difficulty, contact your lender to adjust payment arrangements.

Monthly Payment Plan

The City of Edmonton is no longer taking requests to delay or reduce your monthly property tax payment.

Property owners enrolled in the Monthly Payment Plan who opted to reduce or delay payments due to financial difficulty will receive a statement from the City of Edmonton in August indicating their amount due on September 1. The total of all delayed amounts will be automatically withdrawn on September 1 along with your regular September 1 automatic withdrawal.

Penalty Rates

Late-payment penalty on 2020 property taxes will be applied at the rate of 5% on both September 1 and November 1, 2020. Arrears from previous years, supplementary taxes and other charges incur a penalty of 1.25% per month, with the exception of the months of July and August. For more information, see Penalties & Service Charges.

Attention Non-Residential Property Owners

The City of Edmonton has worked with the Government of Alberta to include a non-residential education tax delay to August 31. Edmonton is offering non-residential property owners the option to delay payment of both municipal and provincial property tax.
