About the Program:

The Request to Plant program is a City of Edmonton initiative which works to preserve and expand the urban forest through partnerships with community groups and individual residents.

Edmontonians interested in planting a tree on public property are invited to submit a planting proposal for review by an Urban Forester. Final approval will be given based on a specific set of guidelines and procedures.

Tree Information

Refer to the City’s Selection List of Common Tree Species for guidance.


Indicate address or name of park.
Planting Map / Drawing:
Provide an 'X' on a map to show where you would like to plant. Please include:
  • Distance from fence lines
  • Distance from other existing landscaping such as trees, shrubs, and mulch beds
  • Distance from other park structures such as walkways, benches, garbage, and playgrounds

Community Consent
Please attach signed letter(s) of consent from all immediately adjacent landowners. You can use this template as a guide

Utility Locates
To determine if the chosen location does not contain buried utilities, utility locate requests from Alberta One-Call and Shaw must be submitted. The locate should be valid at the time of planting.


Applications received between August 1 - March 31 will be considered for planting in the spring (May - June). Applications received between April 1 - July 31 will be considered for planting in the fall (September - October). A total of 20 applications will be considered each year.
Personal information is being collected under the authority of Section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act and is used for the administration of City Operations programs.
