About the Project
The planning, design and construction of interchanges at 121 Street and 127 Street are part of the Yellowhead Trail Strategic plan. Due to their proximity to each other and the VIA rail line structures, the 121 Street and 127 Street interchanges will need to be planned and designed together and will ultimately be linked.
In addition to the interchange at 127 Street, modifications will be required for the St. Albert Trail interchange. There will be closure of direct access to Yellowhead Trail from 130 Street, 126 Street and 124 Street, as well as alternative access to surrounding properties. The interchange at 121 Street will include the upgrades required to support traffic and provide access to surrounding properties. There will be closure of direct access at 107 Street with alternate access provided to surrounding properties.
Additional improvements, such as realigning local roadways and construction of cul-de-sacs, are also planned.
Where We Are Now
Concept planning is the next step for this project and will begin in 2018.
Concept planning will identify the configuration of the interchange and adjacent roadways, as well as land requirements for the construction of these new facilities. An important part of concept planning is public engagement, to ensure an understanding of area needs and possible impacts of roadway changes. Stakeholder feedback will help inform the concept plan and ongoing design considerations.
