All underground construction has now been completed. The remainder of the work is to restore the surface (asphalt, concrete, and landscaping) back to its original condition along 23 Avenue between 85 Street and 91 Street, and along 91 Street between 23 Avenue and 30 avenue.
Work is scheduled to begin the week of May 23, 2017. Construction is expected to last three months and will be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.
No full road closures are expected during this construction. Westbound traffic along 23 Avenue from 85 Street to 91 Street will be reduced to one lane to allow for paving, and repair of the road structure, sidewalk, and landscaping. Eastbound traffic may be reduced to one lane during off-peak hours (9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday).
What Is Involved with This Project?
These trunk sewers are located at depths ranging from 16 - 30 metres below ground and the sewer pipes range from 2.3 metres to 3.5 metres high. There are four major components to the project:
- Tunnel excavation
- Installation of new pipes and shafts
- Connections to existing sewer pipes
- Conversion of existing double barrel pipe into full sanitary pipe
Construction crews make every effort to complete this necessary work with as little disruption to traffic flow as possible.
The project is scheduled for completion in August of 2017.
